Whether it’s a bar or the beach, head back to the scene where you two first met.

What says romance like spending the day and night at a chic hotel in your city, or a quaint B&B in the country? If you’re the type of couple who’s never home at the same time, spend your anniversary on the couch with takeout, plenty of wine, and a series you both love on Netflix or Redbox.

Doing service together is a great way to learn about each other without feeling self-conscious. Learning how to juggle or rollerblade or draw as a date activity are examples of some things you might try. Watching a movie is not very creative and can end up being expensive too.

The cool part is that when you learn something together it gives you a good excuse to hang out again if everything goes well. Here is a whole list of entertainment dates that are not expensive and still fun.

Pretty soon the kids are grown and couples find they’ve grown apart. It doesn’t have to always be on the same night, but it’s helpful to pencil in one night each week on your calendars; you can always change the night if a conflict comes up.
